Church of Saints Peter and Paul, 1883 Parish of Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Moscow

Catechesis

Catechesis – This is an important step in a Christian’s spiritual journey; its purpose is to teach the fundamentals of Christianity, deepen one’s faith and prepare one to receive the Sacraments.
children Our parish runs groups of catechesis, which are open to anyone wishing to learn about the beliefs and teachings of the Catholic Church. These groups are tailored to different age groups and levels of prior knowledge.

For children

First CommunionChildren aged 6 and over are accepted into the groups for the youngest children.

Preparation for the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confession begins in Year 2 and continues for two academic years. This is a very significant moment in a child’s life, as it is at this time that a conscious relationship with God begins.

For teenagers

Classes for children and teenagers who have received their First Communion help them to deepen and consolidate their knowledge of Divine Revelation, the Saviour, the Liturgy and the spiritual life, and to find answers to any questions they may have.

For young people

A course of classes is provided for teenagers and young people to prepare them for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Here, Christians who have already been baptised are strengthened by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Christians aged 14 and over are eligible to receive Confirmation.

For adults

There are also several groups for adults wishing to prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Confession, Holy Communion and Marriage.

Baptism

The preparation period for the Sacrament of Baptism lasts approximately 1.5 years. For those who have not yet been baptised, preparation is provided for the Sacraments of Christian Initiation, that is, Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist (as well as Confession). During the sessions, students study the Holy Scriptures, familiarise themselves with the teachings of the Catholic Church, the main prayers, the rites of the Holy Mass and the traditions of the Church.

Classes take place once a week in the evenings.
Adults receive the Sacrament of Baptism in accordance with early Christian custom – on Holy Saturday, on the eve of Easter.

Courses to prepare for the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist are held for those who have already been baptised. The course lasts one year.

Confirmation
Preparation classes for the Sacrament of Confirmation begin three months before it is administered. This Sacrament is administered by the bishop on the Feast of Pentecost.
For enquiries regarding marriage, please contact the parish priest.

Catechists – The priests and nuns of our parish will guide you, step by step, through the Church’s teachings, help you to embrace the foundations of Christian life, and introduce you to the treasures of our faith.
Classes in all groups are free of charge.

For those who have already been through it all

For our parishioners who have completed their catechesis, we run Bible study and prayer groups. The sessions are led by our sisters.sisters
