Interfaith round-table discussion: ‘Francis in the Footsteps of St Francis’
Book launch for *Hope: An Autobiography*
In the year marking the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, and to coincide with the publication in Russian of Pope Francis’s autobiography, *Hope: An Autobiography*, by Alpina Publisher, we wish to commemorate two great men who, despite the centuries separating them, were united by the same love for Christ, which was particularly evident in their care for the poor and suffering, as well as in their commitment to dialogue and brotherhood.
The gathering, imbued with the spirit of St Francis and the late Pope, will bring together representatives of various Christian denominations and other faiths, as well as cultural figures, public figures and diplomats.
The hall will also host an exhibition of works by contemporary Orthodox and Catholic artists from Russia and Italy, dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and created using a wide variety of techniques — from icon painting and graphic art to mosaics and ceramics.
The following speakers will address the meeting:
His Eminence Bishop Nikolai Dubinin, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow
- Deacon Alexander Cherepenin, a member of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate
- Mufti Damir Mukhetdinov, Doctor of Theology, First Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute, and Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Medina’ Publishing House
- Renat Hazrat Islyamov, Deputy Chair of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation for Education and Science, and Vice-Rector for Research at the Moscow Islamic Institute
- Alessandro Salacone, Community of Sant’Egidio
