The Church of St. Louis in Moscow – a tranquil haven with a remarkable history right in the heart of the city, which has always been open to the public – invites you to take a journey through the different eras in the history of Moscow’s Catholics and the church itself.
On the tour, we:
- we will learn about the history of the arrival of Catholics and Catholic parishes in Moscow, and their role in the development of the neighbourhood and the city;
- we shall explore the architecture and exquisite décor of the Church of St. Louis of France, as well as its renowned masters and masterpieces of Western art;
- let’s talk about how the parish of Saints Peter and Paul came to be here;
- Let’s talk about the Christian life and remember some of the church’s well-known clergy and parishioners, particularly one of Moscow’s most charitable citizens of German origin — the ‘holy doctor’ Fyodor Gaaz, whose life was closely linked to this place.
This is a story of faith, culture and human destinies, as reflected in the history of Moscow’s Catholic parishes; it is also a place of prayer, of encounter with God, and of wonderful musical evenings.
